On January 15th
, Jones Elementary held their first ever Day of Drumming! Each student participated in the Drumming Up Character Program during their enrichment time. Co-founder and director, Mr. Steve Campbell came and brought percussion instruments for everyone to play at the same time.
The instruments were: Hand Drums (Djembes), Maracas, Stick Drums (Tubanos with sticks), Mallet Drums (Bongos and Floor Wood Blocks), and Two-Toned Woodblocks. The students rotated to play all six instruments, playing as an individual section and as a whole band.
They learned different rhythm patterns while learning the importance of having good character. Some students were chosen to either lead a pattern or create a pattern. The administrators, front office staff, and some teachers also joined in on the fun!
A special thank you to Mrs. Hosier, Thelma Jones PTA, and administration for their part in bringing the Dancing Drum to the school. They hope to do it again another year.
