Mrs. Wassay retires after 18 years

On Dec. 17, 2020, Shayesta Wassay walked the halls of Thelma Jones Elementary for the last time as an educator. She started as a resource aide in 2003 when the school opened before later becoming the music aide.

Mrs. Wassay worked alongside three music teachers during her time here: Adam Long, Dameron Growe, and Diana Hosier. You would see her behind the scenes helping make those music programs happen.

We jokingly referred to Mrs. Wassay as the glue that held the campus together because she did whatever job that needed her for the day. Whether it was intervention, covering a class, lunch duty, or ISS; she did it with a smile.

Her parting words: "To all my Shark family, I miss you all already! Remember three things:

  1. Don't Stress
  2. Work Hard
  3. Be Happy

Everything else will fall in place! You are the future of our world, who can make it a better place? Its only you! Education is the road to success. Proud of you!"

Things around here will not be the same without you Mrs. Wassay. Thank you for all the years you've unselfishly served our students. Well wishes on your new journey, we will miss you!
